Perseverant

If I were to pinpoint my greatest strength, it would undoubtedly be my perseverance. It is the trait that shapes how I approach challenges, fuels my ambitions, and defines my character. Perseverance is not just about enduring tough moments, it’s about learning and growing through them. It’s about maintaining focus and believing in my capacity to overcome hurdles, no matter how big or small. This mindset doesn’t just define my approach to engineering; it defines my approach to life.

What makes perseverance my best quality is its versatility; it’s not confined to academics or professional goals. Whether it’s working through personal challenges, collaborating on a demanding team project, or mastering a new skill, I never give up. To me, perseverance is about resilience, adaptability, and a steadfast belief that effort and determination pave the way to success. Whether it be climbing up the 10 meter platform to retry a dive I had previously belly flopped, falling continuously when trying to learn how to snowboard with 6 years of skiing ingrained in me, or spending every night for 3-4 hours 3D modeling after working the entire day at Busch Gardens, I still manage to put my head down and keep going. I believe my character is summed up perfectly by my favorite author:

Natural Leader

Leadership has always been second nature to me, evident in the opportunities I’ve embraced and the successes I’ve helped achieve. My ability to inspire, guide, and collaborate has shaped my journey across various roles and projects.

At Hansel n’ Griddle, a food restaurant, I was promoted to shift manager, a role that allowed me to demonstrate my leadership skills in a professional setting. I took on the responsibility of managing a team, ensuring smooth operations, and fostering an environment where everyone could thrive. This experience taught me the value of communication, delegation, and creating a shared sense of purpose.

Leading my team’s Pantheon Project at Busch Gardens was another significant milestone. This project required not only technical expertise but also the ability to motivate a team, coordinate efforts, and deliver a high-quality product under strict deadlines. My leadership ensured that the project stayed on track while maintaining a positive and collaborative team dynamic.

Lastly, founding my school’s theme park organization was a pivotal moment that combined my leadership abilities with my passion for the industry. From assembling a team to defining the organization’s goals and vision, I took the initiative to create a platform where like-minded individuals could collaborate, learn, and grow. Watching the organization flourish has been one of my most rewarding experiences.

Leadership, to me, is about more than just taking charge—it’s about empowering others, fostering creativity, and setting a clear direction. Whether in professional roles, academic projects, or personal initiatives, I’ve always embraced opportunities to lead, knowing that strong leadership can make the difference between a good outcome and an extraordinary one.

Multidisciplinarian

I’ve always seen myself as a multidisciplinarian—someone driven to explore, learn, and master as much as possible across diverse fields. For me, curiosity and a thirst for knowledge fuel every step of my journey. I’m not content to specialize in just one area; instead, I embrace the challenge of connecting insights from multiple disciplines to create innovative solutions and broaden my understanding of the world.

Art, for instance, has been one avenue where I’ve explored the depths of multidisciplinarity. From mastering the fine details of colored pencils and acrylic paints to honing technical skills in sewing, embroidery, screen printing, and digital design, I’ve embraced the opportunity to learn and integrate different forms of creative expression. Each medium demands its own set of techniques, but together they’ve taught me how to think flexibly and apply what I’ve learned in one area to others.

This mindset is especially valuable in my pursuit of a career in the theme park industry, where engineering meets artistry, storytelling intersects with psychology, and technical precision complements creative vision. I’m constantly learning—whether it’s improving my mechanical design skills, studying architectural concepts, or diving into the intricacies of user experience. My goal is to be as versatile as possible, equipping myself to tackle challenges from all angles.

Receptive

Being receptive is one of my traits that I place the most value on. It’s about maintaining an open mind, welcoming feedback, and staying curious about new ideas and perspectives. This quality has not only shaped my interactions with others but has also been instrumental in helping me learn and adapt quickly in various environments.

Receptiveness has been a cornerstone of my ability to succeed in unfamiliar territory, as demonstrated during my time at Dupont. Although my background is in mechanical engineering, I embraced the opportunity to work in a chemical engineering role, seeing it as a chance to expand my skills and knowledge. Tim Bowman, a seasoned professional chemical engineer, became an invaluable mentor during this time. By actively listening to his guidance and asking thoughtful questions, I quickly absorbed the principles of fluid calculations. Tim’s expertise, coupled with my eagerness to learn, allowed me to bridge the knowledge gap and tackle the project with confidence. As part of the process, I also learned how to apply these calculations to practical outcomes, such as determining the correct parts to order for the system. This hands-on experience not only deepened my understanding of the subject but also taught me how to translate theoretical knowledge into actionable results.

Resourceful

Resourcefulness is another one of my core traits. It’s the ability to adapt, think critically, and make the most out of any situation—qualities that have shaped my personal and professional journey. When faced with complex challenges, whether academic, personal, or creative, resourcefulness has always been my greatest ally. Whether it’s finding innovative ways to approach a project, seeking out alternative methods to solve a problem, or leveraging unexpected tools and resources, I excel at identifying solutions where others might see roadblocks.

One of the best examples of my resourcefulness was during my Senior Design Project at Rutgers. When challenges arose, such as unexpected expenses or unavailable materials, I relied on my ability to adapt and find workarounds. I also sought guidance from mentors and leveraged available tools and facilities to optimize both our processes and costs. The experience taught me to approach constraints not as obstacles but as opportunities to innovate and improve. This project not only reinforced my resourcefulness but also highlighted the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving under pressure. It showed me how much can be accomplished with determination and creative thinking, even in the face of limitations.

Ultimately, resourcefulness is about seeing potential where others might not. It’s a mindset that has empowered me to navigate complex situations, achieve my goals, and continually grow. It’s a quality I carry with me in all aspects of life and one that I believe will be instrumental in shaping my future success.
